EU cities are invited to participate in the fourth edition of the Access City Award - The European Prize for making cities more accessible to people with disabilities and older people. The European Commission continues to encourage cities with over 50 000 inhabitants from all Member States to present their  activities and strategies designed to make cities barrier-free, better places to live for everyone. It is an opportunity for EU cities to showcase and share their work and plans on accessibility.

Una auténtica selección de buenas prácticas en vivienda se encuentra en los finalistas de los Premios Mundiales del Hábitat,  2013, anunciados hoy (17.05.13).

Los diez finalistas de los Premios, financiados y coordinados cada año por la BSHF, han sido elegidos entre más de 200 proyectos de todo el mundo e incluyen proyectos sobre personas sin hogar, el acceso a la energía limpia en zonas rurales y gestión de servicios por las comunidades, tanto como la restauración y la vida sostenible en ciudades.

World Habitat Awards 2013 finalists show people-centred housing in action

A true cross-section of good practice in housing can be found in the 2013 World Habitat Award finalists, announced today (17 May 2013).

The ten finalists for the Awards, funded and co-ordinated each year by the Building and Social Housing Foundation, have been chosen from a list of over 200 projects from across the globe and include projects focusing on homeless people, access to clean energy and community-led service provision as well as restoration and sustainable living in cities.

Rockefeller Pledges $100-Million to Help 100 Cities Cope With Crises

The Rockefeller Foundation today announced a three-year, $100-million effort to help 100 cities around the world develop plans to become more resilient to catastrophes.

The funds will be used to hire “chief resilience officers” in each of the cities who will coordinate efforts to help withstand shocks due to climate change, economic collapses, terrorist attacks, and pandemics.

The Global Housing Strategy at the Housing Forum for Europe and Central Asia

On 22-24 April the second session of Housing Forum Europe and Central Asia: ‘Promoting Sustainable Housing Futures for All’ took place in Geneva. The Forum offered the opportunity for UN-Habitat and its partners to discuss and support the regional roll out of the UN Global Housing Strategy in Europe and Central Asia.

UN-Habitat partnered with five international organizations – Habitat for Humanity International, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) – to organize the second session of Housing Forum Europe and Central Asia: ‘Promoting Sustainable Housing Futures for All’, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, on 22-24 April 2013.
