Improving urban public spaces

UN-HABITAT has formally notified the Federal Government of Mexico that it will support efforts to institutionalize the recovery of urban public spaces, and to share its experiences with other countries in the region and globally. The announcement follows a three-day seminar 22-25 November on inclusive public spaces for sustainable cities which drew more than 350 local and international delegates.

Africa gets a new disaster management centre

Four disaster prone countries in Southern African last week agreed with UN-HABITAT to establish a disaster risk reduction centre for the sub-region to be based in Mozambique. Comoros, Madagascar, Malawi, and Mozambique, announced the establishment of the Technical Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction after a three-day meeting in the Mozambique capital with donor partners.
