Award to be given for best proposal to aid local resilience

Global Risk Forum GRF Davos has announced the inaugural JTI Foundation Resilience Award, to be conferred at the International Disaster and Risk Conference (IDRC) Davos 2012. The prize, aimed at researchers and practitioners working in the field of risk reduction and disaster management, is awarded to the best project proposal that helps increase resilience at city or community level.

The award carries a purse of CHF 175,000 (about €145,600) and project proposals can be submitted until 15 June 2012. The IDRC Davos 2012, which runs from 26-20 August in Davos (Switzerland), has also extended the call for abstracts deadline to 30 April 2012. Abstracts are invited for oral presentations, poster presentations, workshops or on one of the conference topics.

The IDRC Davos 2012 is part of a biennial conference series started in 2006. The conference aims to bring together the international expertise of institutions and individuals to exchange knowledge and best practices, and develop new solutions to managing risk, reducing disasters and adapting to climate change.
