Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Sani was born on 16th June, 1958 in Kano, Kano State, started his academic pursuit at Kwalli Primary School, Kano (1966-1972), later proceed to Government Secondary School, Hadejia, Jigawa State (1973 – 1978). He later proceeded to the Kano State Institute for Higher Education, School of Technology, Kano (1978 – 1981) and Kaduna Polytechnic (1982 – 1984), where he obtained National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Architecture. TPL, Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Sani, MNITP, later proceeded to Kaduna Polytechnic (1989 – 1991) to obtain Postgraduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning and Bayero University, Kano (1995 – 1996) where he obtained Advanced Diploma in Legal Studies. He holds a Masters of Science Degree in Town Planning (2003) and Doctor of Management Degree (2007).
He has extensive experience in the preparation, planning and implementation of Urban and Regional Development projects. TPL, Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Sani, MNITP, started his professional practice in 1981 when he was engaged by the Bichi Local Government, as a Technical Officer, later same year, he was appointed the Head of Works and Housing Department at Kura Local Government in Kano State, the post he held and worked at 13 different Local Governments in the State namely; Kura, Gwarzo, Dawakin Kudu, Kazaure, Kabo, others include Albasu, Bebeji, Makoda, Sumaila, Dambatta, Madobi and Rano Local Governments, Kano State, before Retirement in 2008. He was also an Assistant Chief Town Planning Officer at Wudil Local Government from 1997 – 1998.
On his private practice, has participated actively in various Housing, Land Subdivision and Environmental/Social Impact Assessment Reports for Private Developers, States and Federal Governments. He has also participated in the Gender Disaggregated Baseline Surveys for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), National Technical Working Group of the Vision 20:2020 (Urban and Rural Working Group), Urban Renewal and Slum Upgrading of Kaura Goje settlement in Kano by the Urban Development Bank of Nigeria PLC, Design of the Methodological Framework for the Assessment of Good Urban Governance in Nigeria, for the National Bureau of Statistics, Review of the Kabba College of Agriculture, Consultant to the National Assembly, Master plan and the Hadejia Master Plan in Jigawa State. He was a Part-Time Senior Lecturer at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (February 2006 –December 2009). He is recognized as one of the 50 Greatest Professional Town Planners by the 50th Independence Anniversary publication of Construction and Engineering Digest (CED) September 2010, donated books to the libraries of the Kaduna Polytechnic and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and a Patron of the Association of Nigerian Town Planning Students, Kaduna Polytechnic and University of Ife Chapters, Distinguished Alumnus of the Obafemi Awolowo University - 2011.
The current President, Association of Town Planning Consultants of Nigeria (ATOPCON) has been a prominent member of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) since his registration in 1995. Recipient of the 2010 NITP Honors for Commitment and Invaluable Contribution to the Town Planning Profession, Member NITP Sponsored reconciliatory visit by NITP, ATOPCON and TOPREC to Anambra and Delta States. 16th – 19th December 2010, Member Central Marking Committee of the NITP/TOPREC Examinations. 2006 -2010, has attended several seminars, workshops and conferences including World Urban Forum 4, Nanjing, China; has published many articles on Urban and Regional Planning in some Academic Journals and Nigerian Newspapers, and offered many interviews to Radio Stations and press men. One thing TPL, Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Sani, MNITP, is proud of as a professional Town Planners, is the fact that, both his residence and office are located on Government approved layout, with a Government approved Building Plan (designed and supervised by him) and with Government Certificate of Occupancy in his name. He is a devoted Muslim married to one wife with five children.
