I am a writer, activist and speaker concerned about reshaping human habitat to restore the needs of people, support vibrant communities and respond more effectively to the climatic conditions in which it is situated. By re-thinking design and the policies that shape the form and the performance of the places we inhabit, I believe that it is possible to create a future in which everyone can live healthier and more abundant lives without plundering and polluting the planet on which we depend. Throughout my diverse career in design, public policy and business management, I have been fortunate to be able to apply my professional and academic background in architecture, public health, and environmental physics, to shape sustainability, performance, and healthy places. Habitat - our built environment - influences so much of who we are, our health and well-being and community. I am currently based in Scottsdale, Arizona and until late 2009 I served as President and CEO of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation - based at Wright’s Taliesin West, also in Scottsdale. My clients include the Gila River Indian Community, Mesa Development Corporation (a Gila River Indian Community Company), Velux Corporation (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Ramona Farms. I am also a visiting professor at the University of Oregon (Eugene and Portland, Oregon) teaching sustainability, public health and human habitats. I am a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts ("Arts, Manufactures and Commerce") in London and also a Chartered Architect and Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects. I recently became a US Certified Sustainable Building Advisor. My non-profit directorships include the Sonoran Institute, Local First Arizona Foundation, and the Royal Institute of British Architects, USA.
