ICLEI survey on urban sustainability concludes cities are embracing sustainability goals

The results of the survey Cities views on urban sustainability, jointly issued by ICLEI and the European Metropolitan Network Institute (EMI), have revealed that European cities prefer general and broadly-formulated goals when it comes to sustainable projects. The survey focused on urban sustainability and addressed issues such as cities’ understanding of the concept, their ambitions concerning sustainability, as well as their goals within the European Union framework.

The aim of the survey was to identify the needs of European cities in terms of further implementation of urban sustainability goals. The survey was sent to city officials and policymakers across Europe, including ICLEI's Informed Cities Network and EMI’s pool of cities, researchers, practitioners and decision-makers. The findings show that while the implementation of urban sustainability policies remains challenging for cities, mobility strategies are more successfully implemented than other measures. f
