Consumer Protection wing of CAG is one of the most dynamic sections which interacts with the public on a daily basis through handling of consumer complaints. This wing focuses mainly on protection of the consumer rights.
Environmental Protection
Environment Protection has been on CAG’s agenda since inception and we have been actively campaigning in different ways for protection of the natural environment such as forest land, wetlands, open spaces, parks, coastal areas etc from pollution, exploitation, acquisition, misuse, overuse and any other form of abuse. Protection of environment needs a strong understanding of the kind of environment and problems associated and for this an in depth research is necessary. CAG has been involved in conducting various kinds of research programmes which ultimately feed into policy change and in active campaigns. The information obtained from research is then used to back our campaigns. We have successfully carried out campaigns to create awareness and to get people involved through signature campaigns, public meetings, awareness programmes, letter and mail campaigns and in some cases even through Public Interest Litigations (PIL). Along with research and campaigns, CAG works towards building capacity of all stakeholders with regard to many issues.
Good Governance
Making good governance a reality has been CAG’s mission which is largely done by demanding transparency and accountability and by promoting participatory decision making. To achieve this CAG interacts with the Government and provides inputs for better governance. CAG firmly believes in a bottom-up approach for decision making especially with regard to planning processes the Government undertakes, and this requires involving stakeholders to achieve a participatory decision making process.
