World Habitat Day 2012: A day for grassroots action throughout the world, starting in your community

In commemoration of World Habitat Day 2012, Habitat for Humanity is engaging in various activities and events worldwide to raise awareness on the need for better shelter around the world, affordable & adequate housing, and to change the systems, policies and attitudes that lead to poverty housing.

The organization's theme this year is, "Many Homes, One Community." This will call attention to the pivotal role of housing in a neighborhood’s progression. Habitat for Humanity supporters around the globe will participate in special activities that highlight the need for safe, decent and affordable shelter.

This year, Habitat for Humanity is urging supporters to go online and sign the “Pledge to End Poverty Housing.” This virtual petition calls on key decision-makers to commit to recognizing the role of housing in communities, making affordable, adequate housing a priority and changing the systems and policies that lead to poverty housing.
