Summary:
This topic seeks to understand why sub-Sahara Africa has not yet embraced Solar Energy.

Full Description

Solar energy presents an opportunity for sub-Sahara region owing to its huge potential. Solar has clear advantages: it is green (does not pollute the environment); has low maintenance cost albeit with high upfront cost; it is available most of the day time; has very minimal disturbance to the environment in comparison with hydro-dams that lead to displacement of people and other physical stuructures, etc.; it is ideal for rural areas that are yet to be connected to the central grid. Despite these obvious advtanges, why then has it not been taken up by most of these countries in the sub-Sahara region?
