I am an urban planning graduate student at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas USA. I am eager to become involved in the HPUI, however I am not aware of the procedure.
Texas A&M is a land grant university with an elaborate extension service offered at the state level. I am interested in extending the extension service to offer urban planning expertise at both the state and international levels.
Currently, this idea is being considered by the Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning department of the College of Architecture. All recommendations are welcome.
Thank you.

Michael Martin, one way to engage in the Initiative is to go to:
http://www.unhabitat.org/content.asp?typeid=19&catid=657&cid=10727&activ...
and register as an individual member. On www.unhabitat.org/HPUI you will find more information on activities and events.
Apologies for the inconvenience. Please note that the Urban Gateway is currently still under development, an updated version incorporating the feedback from this phase is planned for this autumn. Until then, we encourage you to continue testing this site. Don't hesitate to contact me on HPUI@unhabitat.org, I'll forward any feedback to the developers.
Also, check out the www.unhabitat.org/HPUI site, which does not have interaction options but provides a good overview of the Initiative.
My best,
